Responsible for development of controls architecture and algorithms for electric traction motors and power electronics for hybrid, fuel cell and electric vehicle applications.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Generates technical solutions for complex controls of surface and interior mounted permanent magnet machines, induction machines, and other machine technologies
• Generates technical solutions for complex digital controls of high voltage power electronics
• Work as part of a diverse team of professionals supporting component development and subsystem and vehicle integration
• Performs complex simulation and analysis of electric drive and high voltage power electronics and subsystems
• Plans and performs testing, development and calibration in dynamometer facility
• Supports engineering design development for utilization of advances in digital controls
• Assists in definition of system requirements
• Stays abreast of new technologies and competitive methods and products
• Travels as required (10%), both domestic and international

Skills and Abilities

• Experience in development and testing of electric machines and digitally controlled high voltage power electronics
• Experience in C and C++ programming languages
• Experience in use of commercial simulation tools, such as Matlab Simulink and Simplorer
• 1+ years of practical experience preferred
• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of electric machine and high voltage power electronics digital control processes
• Knowledge of electric machine and high voltage power electronics design fundamentals preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows software preferred (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
• Willing to relocate to Southern California

Education and/or Training

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Computer Science, Math, or Physics preferred

MS or PhD preferred

• Support implementation and integration of software into controllers for electric drive and high voltage power electronics and subsystems
• Support testing, development and calibration in laboratory and dyne facility environments
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements
• Ability to provide independent review and verification of software written by others
• Travels as required (~10%), both domestic and international

Skills and Abilities

• Experience in Microsoft Visual C++ utility programming
• Experience in automotive or industrial firmware development preferred
• Experience in electric motor control software development preferred
• Experience with CAN, GMLAN preferred
• Experience with Motorola/Freescale processors, Spanish Oak and Snake families preferred
• Experience with embedded compiler and debugging tools and software, Wind River Diab preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
• Willing to relocate to Southern California
